Moloka'i Moloka'i by Alan Brennert

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
I have been looking forward to reading this book for a long time since I have heard a lot of great reviews about it. It is the story of Rachel, a young Hawaiian girl, who is taken away from her family and sent to the island of Molokai because she has leprosy. Molokai is an island of lepers and missionaries and Rachel is forbidden to see her family. As she grows up, the letters from her mother stop coming and Rachel must learn to adapt to her new life by forming connections with people who are constantly dying. There is a lot of heartbreak in this book, but someone it doesn't leave you feeling sad.
